EAST COUNTY ALERT!!

IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED BY NOVEMBER 10TH

Every ten years after the Census, districts are redrawn. The new proposed maps will completely tear apart the rural East county communities. If the new maps are approved as is they will eliminate all five Republican districts in San Diego!

The Citizens Redistricting Committee (CRC) has drawn Santee and El Cajon into a district with parts of the City of San Diego. This would dilute our voice in East County!

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD

You have a great opportunity to influence the process for the better by making the argument to the Citizens Redistricting Commission (CRC) that Santee and El Cajon must be in the same Assembly, Senate, and Congressional district as Lakeside, Alpine, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Ramona, Jamul, and Julian. This will make the East County districts more competitive for candidates who share our values.

You DO NOT need to live in East county to submit a comment. These proposed maps will have implications on all of SD county.

SAMPLE COMMENTS

FOR AWAKEN CHURCH:

"As a member of Awaken church, I strongly oppose the maps that have been proposed for East County. El Cajon, Alpine, Jamul, Lakeside, Santee, Poway, and Ramona are communities that share similar values and should remain in the same Congressional, State Senate, and Assembly Districts."

“I strongly oppose the maps that have been proposed for East County.Your proposed map shows a complete lack of understanding regarding the communities of interest in San Diego County. For example, you put the rural-interface communities of Santee and Lakeside into the same State Senate District as the densely urbanized Hillcrest. This is a clear example of your attempt to dilute the rural voices in our country by diluting them with coastal and urban areas that have nothing in common with rural living.”

“Your proposed map splits apart the long-standing community of interest known as East County. East County includes El Cajon, Alpine, Jamul, Lakeside, Santee, Poway, Ramona, and all areas to the Imperial County line including Borrego Springs. These East County communities should be in the same Congressional, State Senate, and Assembly Districts.”

“I strongly oppose the maps that have been proposed for East County. Please consider adopting the maps at www.sdcountyredistrictingmap.org. These maps better serve our community of interests.”

“I strongly oppose the maps that have been proposed for East County. Your proposed map splits up the Cajon Valley Unified School District that serves El Cajon, Rancho San Diego, Alpine, and parts of Santee.”

COMMENT GUIDELINES

Avoid political statements. Don't mention current districts, candidates, or elected representatives' names; the Commission will ignore these types of arguments.

Clearly identify the geographical boundaries of which communities you want included in the same district.

Use any relevant personal experiences, or anecdotes in your testimony.

Focus on 1-2 reasons. Makes your testimony more precise and impactful! It's ok to keep it short.
